Creator lab has been my safe space at duke to work on my passion projects, meet incredible people, and grow as an entrepreneur and marketer. I absolutely love the community Creator Lab gives me and the freedom it provides to work on creative pursuits among the intense pre-professional culture of Duke. Joining creator lab was the best thing I did my freshman year and has been rewarding in more ways I can count on both a professional and personal level.

“Creator Lab has been an incredible experience that’s connected me with people who are passionate about media and content creation in general, which has been super inspiring. Even though everyone has their own niche, it’s been great to share ideas and learn from others while focusing on my own interests in sports media. The track meetings have been especially helpful—they’ve given me space to bounce ideas off others, explore different creative directions, and get feedback from people who understand the process. Guest speakers like Bianca—while not directly tied to sports—have still provided really valuable insights into how the media industry works, from networking to building a personal brand, all of which I know will help me as I pursue a career in sports content. And of course, getting to hear from Adam Silver as a guest speaker was an unforgettable moment for someone like me who’s passionate about sports.”

“I’m interested in the intersection of entrepreneurship, tech, and media, so I’m super grateful to have found Creator Lab!” Duke has a strong presence in many traditional pre-professional career paths such as finance, medicine, engineering, etc. which means it’s easy to look around me and think I need to fit in one of them to be successful. Creator Lab has been a breath of fresh air to learn about creative career paths that Duke Alumni have pursued and found success in. As a Creator Lab member, I’ve been able to sustain momentum for my design and video projects, gain new outlets to bounce off ideas, hear from other successful creators, and learn about strategies to monetize my creative passions. I can’t imagine my Duke experience without this community!”

“As someone merging media and entertainment into my studies, I often felt isolated for taking an unconventional path at Duke. Creator Lab gave me exposure to a range of experts and new opportunities, a supportive community, and a network of like minded peers. Regular meetings with the industry track have fueled my passion and encouraged me to actively take on projects, ultimately helping me to land a summer internship at Comcast/NBCU headquarters.”

“Creator Lab has been one of the few communities where I’ve truly felt accepted at Duke. It’s a diverse, welcoming group of people who are all passionate about their own unique creative pursuits. Many creative endeavors, such as content creation, can be incredibly lonely at times, so having a space like Creator Lab where everyone supports each other is invaluable. The members are super generous, always willing to take time out of their busy schedules to help each other out. Professionally, Creator Lab has also opened my eyes to industries I never would have considered otherwise, such as film, entertainment, marketing, and agency. These are not popular paths at Duke and resources for navigating these fields have been otherwise minimal. On top of that, the speaker events have given me access to industry voices and experiences I never would’ve had otherwise.”

Whether it’s coming up with DJing live sets, brainstorming content strategy, or video production and editing, Creator Lab has provided the space, equipment, and mentorship that allowed my ideas to be taken seriously and to be brought to life... It made me realize how much I love building things that bring people together, and it’s been central to my creative development and confidence!”
